Here’s a story about an inmate that makes quilts for charity out of old prison blue jeans and worn out orange offender transport jumpsuits. http://www.swxrightnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=12158570

I’m not sure how I feel about that. It’s nice that he is doing something good for others, but I am not sure I would like getting a quilt made from old prison clothing. What do YOU think?

Quilt History Books for Sale

I have been asked to sell a couple of boxes of quilt books for someone else. I separated out the quilt history books so I could give y’all first crack. Although I am salivating at some of them, I haven’t purchased any for myself:-((

Most of them look like they were purchased new and just put on the shelf without even being opened. The older ones appear to have been purchased at a used book store. Some of the used books are a little shelf worn.

I made a list, put it in PDF form and uploaded it to http://quiltbug.com/PDF/books-for-sale.pdf The prices shown is the amount she hopes to sell these for on Ebay. I can sell these for 75% of the price shown until Saturday, March 13 (because there won’t be any Ebay fees.) If there is no price, make an offer. I may not be able to get back to you immediately as she doesn’t have E-mail.

I can accept credit cards and paypal through the shop. Books will be shipped by priority mail, with insurance on the more valuable pieces. All books subject to prior sale.

Quilt Contest Announcement

The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, New York is seeking submissions for its 2010 quilt contest entitled A New York State of Mind. The entries will be exhibited October 16 and 17, 2010 and will be judged by a team of museum professionals and textile experts.

Quilters are welcome to submit an original quilt project that fits one of the three contest categories: New York Beauty Quilts – quilts based on traditional motifs, styles and construction methods from the 18th- through 20th-centuries; Hometown New York Quilts – quilts that celebrate the hometown of the crafter in original designs; and Carousel Quilts – quilts drawing on the color and creativity of the carousel tradition.

Category winners will be exhibited in Cooperstown at the Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum as a precursor to a major quilt exhibition that will run from April through December of 2011. Additional prizes will be awarded for audience favorite, judge’s choice, and others.

The Farmers’ Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum have long been associated with collecting and interpreting decorative and utilitarian textiles – including a large collection of quilts that date back to the 18th century. The Museums’ quilt collection has now grown to several hundred. Contest winners will have their quilts displayed alongside many of these rare works during the 2011 exhibition.
