Shop Hop Secret Password

The pattern for this quilt is one of two Thank You gifts for buying a raffle ticket

This is a Thank You gift for buying a raffle ticket

Have you ever been on a shop hop? Shop Hoppers buy a passport and then travel to 11 different shops, entering for door prizes and receiving patterns for shop hop project along the way. When the passport has been stamped by all eleven shops, the hopper receives a finishing gift and becomes eligible to win one of three awesome gift certificate packages, collectively valued at over $2500! Passports and shop hop bags are available now for only $5 at the Quiltbug shop. Our Shop Hop is happening May 19 – 22.

If you plan to visit the Quiltbug shop any time during the shop hop, be sure to give the person behind the register (usually me) the secret password “beehive”. (Don’t share it with anyone, it’s our secret!) The meaning of this password will become clear once you enter the shop:-))

For those of you that can’t make it to the shop, mention the secret password in the special comments section of the order form when you order from Quiltbug.com. We will send you a little surprise with your order.

Again this year we will be collecting cans of food for the local food pantry. You will also be able to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis GREAT STRIDES walk by sponsoring me in my walk on May 22. This happens to be my granddaughter Ella’s third birthday. (Ask me about my granddaughter. Go ahead, I dare you:-)) As you might have guessed, my little Ella was born with CF and I am *determined* that she will outlive me. If you are not local and would like to help me raise funds for research,our Team LaLa page is here: http://www.cff.org/great_strides/JocelynDriessen7477. The picture on that page was taken during her latest hospitalization in April. She finally got to eat something!

I am also sponsoring a raffle quilt called Phoenix Rising to raise funds for her medical bills. It features the dragons that are going to slay CF! It has bamboo/silk batting and is quilted in flames. The picture is here: http://quiltbug.com/Shop/Shop-News.htm. Tickets are $5 each and only 200 will be sold. As a thank-you for buying a ticket, I will send you the pattern for my latest quilt, Roller Coaster. The name refers to the roller coaster of health issues and emotions faced by CF children and their parents. I will also send you the patterns shown at http://hickoryhillquilts.com/savanna-scramble.htm. To buy a ticket and get a free pattern, click here.

Enjoy,

Let’s Make CF stand for Cure Found!

My thanks to the Susquehanna Valley Quilters of Oneonta NY for their generous donation to my fundraising for CF research this year. The research on this genetic disease is very close to finding a cure – along with its genetic cousin, one of the forms of leukemia. If you would like to make a donation, too, please visit http://www.cff.org/great_strides/dsp_donationPage.cfm?registeringwalkid=7477&idUser=467469. Don’t worry about the amount. At this stage of the research, every dollar donated has the potential to save a life. Someone you will probably never meet will thank you!

Update on the Quilts for Japan Sew-in

April 19, 2011  |  New in the Shop  |  Comments Off

We just sent off our 4th box of completed quilts! So far we have shipped 53 quilts. We have probably that same number in tops, most of which will be sent to the volunteer long armers. I have to say, the response to this event has been overwhelming! Quite a number of people have generously sent everything from cash (to offset our shipping fees) to fabric, tops and completed quilts. If you would like to see just a few of the pictures we have taken, click here: http://quiltbug.com/shop/quilts-for-japan.htm

Quilts for Japan Sew-In!
Quilters are providing warmth, support and hope to the people of Japan.

Esperance NY (April 4, 2011) The recent devastating earthquake and Tsunami in Japan has affected millions of people. In an effort to provide warmth and comfort to the survivors of Japan’s catastrophic events, quilters are being called upon to make and donate quilts which will be distributed to the affected areas.

Naomi Ichikawa, Editor of Patchwork Quilt in Tokyo Japan, recently reached out to Quilters to ask for their help and support to provide comfort quilts for families and children who have lost everything.

The Quiltbug Shop has responded by organizing a Sew-in at the United Methodist Church, 175 Main St, Esperance starting at noon on Sunday, April 10. Quilters can bring their own donations, or a kit will be provided. Helpers who do not have a sewing machine will be need to iron, sort and pack.

Lunch has been generously donated by neighbors Western Turnpike Deli and Hannafords, both located less than two miles from the shop. In addition, the church will be sponsoring a bake sale from 12 – 3 that day to help raise funds needed for shipping.

Donations of quilt supplies and items to use as door prizes are requested. These can be brought to the shop anytime before the event. Remember the Japanese proverb – ‘a friend who comes on a rainy day is your true friend’.

Located just over the Schoharie Creek bridge on Main St in Esperance, this quilt shop is packed with fabric, books, batting, patterns, notions, sewing supplies and other goodies beloved by quilters and crafters. If you’ve got the quiltbug, they’ve got the cure!

The Quiltbug shop is going to be having a Sew-In at the UMC Church next door to the shop starting at 11AM on April 10 to make quilts for Japan. The church is going to do a bake sale to help raise funds for shipping, and the Western Turnpike Deli is going to provide food for the workers. As is Hannaford. Quilters Dream Batting will be sending us some batting and Kona Bay will be sending us some fabric to use as backing. Quilting Services have been donated by At Home Quilting and two other individuals.

I’ve asked a couple of people for door prizes and everyone has said yes so far. I am going to keep working on that. I am kinda excited.

* Waters Garage – oil change
* Apple Barrel – $20 GC
* Carrot Barn – TBA

We *will* need donations of fabric (or quilt blocks or tops), batting, etc as well as lots of people to sew, of course:-)) If you would like to send us something, our mailing address is:
